One new and essential component of this 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety will be formal commitments. Each government as well as other major stakeholders will have the opportunity to make a formal commitment describing how they plan to accelerate progress to achieve the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 target of reducing road traffic deaths and injuries by 50% by 2030. Based on previously agreed upon and other performance targets Global road safety performance targets, commitments could include, for example, new road safety policies or legislation; improvements to road infrastructure or vehicle regulations; strengthened trauma care or data collection systems; as well as additional funding.

It is proposed that official government commitments be developed through consultation as part of a country’s national preparatory process for the 4th Global Ministerial Conference. Ideally these consultations would involve representatives of all relevant ministries, international organizations, civil society and other national and local road safety partners.

More detailed information about how the process for articulating and presenting these commitments during the 4th Global Ministerial Conference itself will be available soon.

Together, we can build a future where our roads are safer for everyone.
